GROUND WATER QUALITY ATLAS
FOR CHESTER COUNTY

This project is being done in cooperation with the Chester County Water Resources Authority and the Chester County Health Department.

NEED FOR THE PROJECT

Ground-water-quality data have been collected in Chester County by the U.S. Geological Survey since 1925. Ground-water-quality data for over 2,100 wells reside in the USGS database. Although much of the data have been statistically analyzed for various studies, the last county-wide statistical analysis was done by Sloto (1994) for data up to 1989. Most of the data have never been spatially analyzed.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

• Spatially and statistically analyze selected ground-water chemical constituents for Chester County
• Prepare GIS maps to show the spatial distribution for each constituent

• Retrieved data for selected constituents from the USGS water-quality database
• Plot constituent concentrations on appropriate base maps using GIS
• Charactarize aquifer characteristics
• Perform a statistical analysis for each constituent
• Prepare a written report to show maps and discuss the results of statistical analyses in the text and tables
