The U.S. Geological Survey began a program of mapping the water table (unconfined
aquifers) and potentiometric surface (confined and unconfined aquifers) in Chester County in 1984 in
cooperation with the
Chester County Water Resources
Authority. The maps are used to determine depth to water, direction of
ground-water flow, and routes of contaminant movement.
